What types of vaccinations do you offer for adult dogs?

We offer several types of vaccines for adult dogs. Your dog’s lifestyle will help us determine the type and frequency of the vaccinations they need. At the Morinville Veterinary Clinic, we recommend “core” vaccines on a regular basis: rabies, distemper, adenovirus, parvovirus, parainfluenza. In addition, we offer vaccines for bordetella (kennel cough) coronavirus, Lyme disease and leptospirosis.

Is there a schedule for how often to vaccinate a dog?

Yes! Your pet’s age and lifestyle will help us determine the frequency of the vaccinations. The core vaccines (DAPP, rabies) can be administered every 2-3 years, once a dog has reached adulthood. Veterinarians are the only people who should make recommendations about your dog’s vaccine schedule, as they have the training and access to the most up to date research on vaccines. A missed or overdue vaccination can disrupt the schedule. Your veterinarian may recommend booster vaccines to ensure your pet has full immunity.

Why is it important to vaccinate your dog?

Prevention is key! Most of the diseases we vaccinate against are contagious and cannot be cured. It is much better for your pet and more cost effective to vaccinate regularly than to treat an easily preventable disease. Boarding facilities and groomers often require pets to be up to date on their vaccinations. Viruses such as bordetella are airborne and therefore, are highly contagious. The rabies virus is transmitted by an exchange of bodily fluid. Animals like foxes, muskrats and bats can carry the rabies virus. Parvovirus is transmitted through excrement, the virus can live in an environment for years and is very difficult to eradicate.

How much do dog vaccinations cost?

The cost of vaccinations can vary, the type and number of vaccines will affect your total cost. In order to give you an accurate estimate, we will need to know some basic information about your dog. Basic information includes the age of your dog, previous vaccination history, and information about your pet’s lifestyle. Activities such as travel, grooming, boarding or visiting dog parks will help us determine the type of protection he or she will need.
